Saw a great article today about the Top Five 5 Common Mistakes adopters make when bringing home a new dog from our friends at the Local Bark. Great article, but I'd like to add one more common mistake - The Sixth Mistake - not preparing a bug-out kit for your new pet. Here's the perfect opportunity for you to create an emergency kit - while everything you need for your new pet is right there on the kitchen counter...a copy of shot records, adoption papers, that new furbaby kit. Just add a picture of your pet, maybe a slip lead, a bowl, and keep with (a) the human's bug-out/emergency kit OR keep it with the pet's crate or kennel.
You may think emergency evacuations do not apply to you and your family. It doesn't take a hurricane, or tornado, or flood to cause an emergency situation. Gas leaks, train derailments, or ice storms could possibly upset your routine and that of your pets.
